Who Constructed the Ho Airport

The airport’s construction is in line with the government’s goal of providing airports in all of the country’s regions. Ghana Airports Company Limited is funding the project, which is expected to cost $25 million.

The facility, which will serve the city of Ho and the Volta enclave, was originally planned for a 3000 acre site with an existing power plant.

T The project began in 2015 under then-President John Dramani Mahama, and in May 2016, President Mahama held a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off phase two of Ho Airport building.

Amandi Holding Limited, an engineering company, was expected to complete the project 2017.

In the first phase of construction, the airport received a runway that was 1900 meters long and 30 meters wide, aprons, one ATC tower, a new passenger terminal building with a capacity of 150,000 passengers per year, baggage handling systems, boarding gates, and CCTV.

President Mahama announced that the Ho Airport will be completed and inaugurated in November 2016 as part of his efforts to make the Volta Region one of the nicest regions in the country, attracting investors and creating employment.

The inauguration, however, did not take place until after he had left office.

The facility’s non-inauguration has prompted traditional rulers and residents of the region to petition President Akuffo-Addo, who took office in January, to inaugurate it.
