Ugandan minister to appear in court over shooting

Ugandan Labor Minister Mwesigwa Rukutana (Mwesigwa Rukutana) is expected to appear in court on Monday after he was arrested in a shooting incident over the weekend.

The minister allegedly shot at opponents’ supporters after losing the primary election of the ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

According to local media reports, one supporter was seriously injured and the other two were seriously injured.

Mr. Rukutana denied shooting at opponents’ supporters.

The local media quoted witnesses as saying that the minister snatched a gun from one of his bodyguards and opened fire on supporters.

The minister was arrested along with three bodyguards.

Deputy police spokesman Polly Namaye said they will be charged with attempted murder.

A video of the moment the minister brandished the gun was posted online.
