Ghana’s second biggest airport commissioned at Obuasi

On September 3, 2012, a multi-million-dollar airport opened in Obuasi. According to the authorities, the airport will change the mode of transportation in the Adansi and Omansi regions of Ashanti.

The airport was opened the AngloGold Ashanti Company. It has a two-kilometre runway and a modern terminal, with offices and waiting rooms for entry and exit.

The estimated cost of the entire project is US$4 million. Authorities claim that this is the second-largest airport in the country, after Kotoka International Airport.

About eight years after the opening of the airport, little is known about its impact and the changes brought about the regional transportation system.

The Ghana Stock Exchange (Anglo Gold Ashanti), a mining company listed on the Ghana Stock Exchange, has invested millions of dollars to establish an airport in Obuasi, which is not only expected to change Adan The mode of transportation in the Adansi and Amansie regions will also ignite the country’s overall economy.

The airport has a two-kilometre runway and a modern terminal with offices and lounges that can be used for entry and exit. It is estimated to be worth US$4 million and is the second largest airport in Ghana.

Mr Fred Attakumah, Vice President of Sustainable Development of AngloGold Ashanti, said in the commissioning of Obuasi that the construction of the airport will greatly promote business development and the huge tourism potential of the community, and therefore urge people to support the company’s transformation.

Attakumah said that as a value-oriented company, AGA is currently investing heavily to ensure the transformation of its business in Ghana (especially the Obuasi mine) so that it can produce higher-quality ounces, there generating more Cash to fulfil the promises to shareholders and stakeholders.

In addition to ensuring the convenient flow of AGA passengers between Accra, Takoradi and Kumasi, this facility can also serve as a hub for medical emergencies and rapid evacuation for various purposes including national security.

Transport Minister Alhaji Collins Dauda praised the social projects of Anglo Gold Ashanti in the community and its contribution to the national economy. He also urged the company to do more to positively influence people’s socio-economic level.

The minister commissioned the project and he was pleased that a private company established an airport to complement the government’s efforts to open the country through transportation and urged other private companies to follow the example of Anglo Gold Ashanti. Role model.
