The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, revealed that of the 80 warehouses built across the country, 51 are ready.
He said in the “National Building” update series on Tuesday, November 3, that the government will soon commission the completed warehouse.
He said: “We have decided to build 80 warehouses across the country. I am happy to report that out of the 80 warehouses, 51 are ready to be handed over to me.”
He added: “We have inherited a warehouse capacity of 34,000 tons and can increase the capacity 80,000 tons.”
He further revealed that the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has provided 300 pickup trucks to extension personnel.
He said this is to enable them to assist farmers who use the best farming methods to increase yields.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto said that the government is determined to ensure food security in the country, so it has to invest.
He said: “300 pickup trucks have been provided to extension workers so that they can move with farmers and teach them modern farming methods.”
He pointed out that the government also intends to make gardening the main source of foreign exchange income.
“We want to make gardening the main source of foreign exchange income for the Ghanaian fortress. We want to change the whole story and we will export more. We can do it.” He said.
The theme of the plan is: “Become a West African Food Basket”.
