Bulu Colapses on the Pitch
On Tuesday, Ghanaian referee Charles Bulu collapsed while officiating an AFCON qualifying match between Ivory Coast and Ethiopia for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Bulu, who wears a FIFA badge, was stretchered off the field after losing consciousness in the 80th minute. He is said to have passed out due to the extreme heat in Abidjan.
The Ivorians were leading 3-1 in the matchday 6 match at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny when the incident occurred, and the game was called off.
Bulu’s replacement, a fourth official from Ivory Coast, was unable to take over due to a conflict of interest.
As a result, with ten minutes left to play, the match had to be called off, despite the fact that both countries had already qualified for the tournament in Cameroon.
