Supporters’ Lives For Nothing – Mame Yaa Rebukes Mahama

Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mame Yaa Aboagye has expressed disappointment in the leadership of the opposition NDC for risking the lives of their supporters for nothing.

According to her, NDC deceived their supporters to go on the streets to protest while they knew they have completely lost the elections.

Mame Yaa also wondered why the NDC Presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama accepted to be called President-elect when he knows he lost the election.

So after all you accept the fact that you lost the election but you indeed made your supporters believe that you have won the elections and continue to incite them to demonstrate and protest on the streets to risk their lives. I feel sorry for your supporters, especially those who were on the street protesting.”

“NDC party should tell Ghanaians why they declared publicly that they won the election? Again, they should tell Ghanaians why they chose to refer to Former President Mahama as the President-elect after EC Chair has declared Nana Addo as the President-elect. This alone could have caused mayhem in the country if not for the intervention of God’s mercy and you later go to court and say no you didn’t win but rather want re-run.

This act of treachery should not be entertained in this country and must be condemned in no uncertain terms because Ghanaians deserve better,” she said.

The Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Former President John Dramani Mahama, has filed a petition at the Supreme Court seeking the annulment of the declaration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the President-elect the Electoral Commission.

The petition is also seeking an order of injunction restraining President Akufo-Addo from holding himself as the President-elect.

Former President Mahama is also asking the apex court to order the EC to conduct a second election with only him and President Akufo-Addo as the candidates

Other reliefs

Other reliefs sought the Former President include a declaration that the Chairperson of the EC, Mrs. Jean Mensa, breached the 1992 constitution, specifically Article 63(3) with the declaration that she made on December 9, 2020.

Also, the former President is asking the highest court of the land to declare that based on the data contained in the declaration “ no candidate satisfied” the more than 50 percent threshold required to be declared a winner of the presidential poll.

He also wants a declaration from the court that the said declaration of President Akufo -Addo as the President-elect the EC is “unconstitutional, null, void and of no legal effect”

The petition was signed Former President Mahama, with the lawyer on record as Mr. Tony Lithur.
