John Boadu reminds NPP members that campaigning for presidential hopefuls breaches party code of conduct

The General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party has reminded party members about the need to abide the party’s rules at all times.

John Boadu’s reminder followed subtle campaigns being undertaken for some presidential hopefuls some party members at the party’s delegates conference in the North East Region.

According to him, it is not advisable for party members to disregard the code of conduct of the party which could aid in ensuring the party has a smooth transition during the search for a new flagbearer.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, he said that “they (party members) are the ones who complained about presidential hopefuls testing waters too early in the year and asked us to get the National Executive Committee Council to put together a code of conduct and we have done that.”

He stated that it is not right for these members to turn around and ignore the same code which bars aspirants and their supporters from openly campaigning for flagbearer hopefuls prior to the lifting of the ban.

This comes after the Chereponi constituency chairman addressing delegates at the NPP conference, openly endorsed Vice President Dr Bawumia for the 2024 elections during his speech.

Meanwhile, John Boadu stated that the code of conduct had not been breached until the Chereponi chairman’s statement, who felt he could make his intentions known because it was the home of the Vice President.

But, any party member or leader who breaches the code could face the disciplinary committee if a complaint is lodged, he stated.

He told Evans Mensah that “I reiterated the fact that we still have to continue to abide the code of conduct set ourselves and help in ensuring that our transition becomes smoother than expected.”

Meanwhile, leading figures of the party including Boakye Agyarko, Vice President Dr. Bawumia, Trade Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten and the Agric Minister Dr. Afriyie Akoto are gunning to bear the flag of the party going into the 2024 polls.
