Blackstars Qualify for AFCON

Ghana qualified for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-1 draw against South Africa at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Thursday, March 25, 2021.

Ghana took the lead through Mohammed Kudus, but Percy Tau equalized two minutes later with a low drive past Ghana’s backup goalkeeper, Razak Abalora.

The overall performance was lacking, with Akonnor’s squad struggling to string together coherent passes in the first 45 minutes.

The second half saw Ghana boost their results, with some possession leading to Mohammed Kudus’ goal.

Akonnor and his team will be unconcerned about their results because the win guarantees the team a place in Cameroon next year.

By virtue of the game result, Ghana has retained its lead in Group C with ten points, tied with South Africa.

The qualification of Ghana, on the other hand, is based on a head-to-head advantage over South Africa.

Some Ghanaians who watched the match expressed their displeasure with the team’s results on social media.

Some players, especially Baba Rahman, who had a weak game, were singled out for criticism, while Mohammed Kudus was praised for his performance.

The Black Stars will play their final qualifying match against Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday.
